  1. If you do it using JQuery, the ribbon will be downloaded to the browser and then hidden. Using SPSecurityTrimmedControl things are sorted at server level and therefore not downloaded to the browser. If what you need is a publishing site with the smallest size and fastest rendering, SPSecurityTrimmedControl would be the way to go. If it is not that critical and you can live with those extra kb… then JQuery can do the trick…
